The Flemming Family started their healthcare tradition in 1964 with the leadership of John Flemming who began the Garden Terrace Nursing Home. In 1978  Peter Flemming, Sr, RN, LNHA, along with his wife, Phyllis, who brought this facility into the twenty first century with its outstanding philosophy in their “quality of care for each and every resident residing in their  facility.”  Garden Terrace became a “living” community in the community of Chatham. The tradition was continued by Phyllis who recognized another need and that was a community based program—a place where adults could spend their days with friends while receiving the care and supervision they needed and assist caregivers who so desperately needed their help.  As a result the Victorian Garden Adult Day Center was opened in 1995. The day center has served as a community resource for over twenty years and it radiates warmth, energy, and compassion that has become part of their legacy.

The Flemming Family are proud past recipients of the “Family Business of the Year “that honors the most outstanding family owned enterprises in New Jersey as awarded by the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies of Fairleigh Dickinson University and the New Jersey Monthly Magazine.  This year the family celebrated their fiftieth year of service to the community.
